When choosing a contractor to build for you these are a few items to check before making a decision


Is the contractor NHBRC registered?
The NHBRC regulates the building code in South Africa

Is the contractor registered for Vat?
Companies that have an annual turnover of in excess of R1 million rand must register for vat.

Ensure that a contract is drawn up between all parties and that the contract is clear and precise

A schedule of finishes is attached with all relative information

An electrical compliance certificate will be needed to get an occupancy certificate from your local council

An A19 certificate is required on for the structure of the roof

Payment to be made in progress payments and to be agreed before commencement

Make sure you understand PC Items and how the contractor has set these out.
Can you finish your project on the Pc allowances the contractor has provided you.
