Painting and waterproofing

In order for paint to last in the Cape Town climate it’s got to have the correct undercoat. People seem to misunderstand painting but probably the most important factor of painting is the prep work. All cracks are to be primed before they are filled with the correct filler for the size of cracks. Once sanded down you must reprime the sanded area. Primers are an absolute must; don’t go cheap on this part (it doesn’t work to go cheap on a primer and use an expensive topcoat). Do not use acrylic primers, you need to use an oil based primer that will seal the walls and give your topcoat something to adhere to. People often wonder why the walls always look damp and patchy the following day after the rain. This is caused by not using the correct primers. Paint is designed to breathe so for this reason using good 5 year guarantee paint is a must.
NB: no point in painting your home with cheep builder’s acrylic only to be disappointed a few months later????

Waterproofing
There are numerous ways to do water proofing it all depends on the problem.
For instance torch on is good for decks, parapets and covering flashing
Super lacryl with membrane is good for flashings on roofs where water doesn’t stand.
Super lay cold is good for parapets, flashings, roof sheets etc where water stands for a longer period of time it can also be used in koi ponds. Fibre seal is good for the tops of parapets and tops of boundary walls.
NB: use the correct product for the correct application!!!
